Why many GitHub pages are similar?

While creating this blog I was looking for a simple blog engine that won’t come in my way and will let me create posts without too much hassle. As you can see, I’ve finally chosen the most obvious one, but I’ve accidentally learned about Jekyll.

It’s a tool written in Ruby, that allows easy transforming of plain text (or markdown more specifically) into pretty static HTML pages and even a blog. It’s highly customizable, supports theming, and actually is used by GitHub Pages. That’s the reason why many GitHub project pages have a very similar look and feel. I find that very interesting and I will surely experiment with it for my projects.

Oh, one more thing. In case you didn’t know, GitHub provides free hosting – a single page for your account and a page per your project. It seemed a thought worth sharing!
